Update: Submission version of the Melbury Abbas and Cann Neighbourhood Plan and the ‘Reg 16’ consultation

Earlier this year, the Neighbourhood Plan for Melbury Abbas and Cann (MA&CNP38) was submitted for a health check as part of the Locality support programme available to neighbourhood planning groups. We received very helpful feedback on the Draft Plan and the Chair of the Steering Group has met with Dorset Council to agree on the extent of changes required so the plan can be submitted for formal examination.  Most comments have now been addressed and we are expecting that the plan will be formally submitted to Dorset Council for a final six-week consultation in the next month (known as ‘Reg 16’).

During the next consultation, the steering group will prepare detailed information on the Plan’s objectives and policies, including how it has considered the various needs of our community, and will summarise the contribution of MA&CNP38 over the period up to 2038.  We will be hosting upcoming events to allow you to find out more about the Plan and ask any questions. We will be advertising dates for these soon.

After this next consultation, Dorset Council will schedule a formal examination of the Submission version of the Plan, which will consider suggestions arising from the Reg 16 consultation.  Any changes suggested by the Examiner will be actioned and the Plan will proceed to a local referendum (hopefully late 2024). If a majority of parishioners on the electoral roll vote yes, then the Plan will be ‘made’ and become part of Dorset Council’s decision-making on planning applications.

We encourage you to engage in any upcoming consultation on the Plan to ensure that it represents a forward-looking vision for our community up to 2038.
